Divorce filing are about 1/3 higher than normal following Christmas. The monday after Christmas break as unofficially been labeled “divorce day” because of the influx of clients contacting attorneys about filing for divorce after the holidays (http://www.gazettextra.com/20161224/after_the_holidays_divorce_day_looms).
If you decided to hold off on your plans for divorce until after the holidays, make sure your prepared! Divorces aren’t cheap, but you can save money by gathering your information ahead of time. Gather property records, bank statements, tax refunds, credit card statement…basically anything relating to your finances from the last 5-7 years and organize it. This can help move your divorce along a lot faster (and save you some major money!).
